Surf Princess!!
Interests: My family (this includes my beloved kelpie), competitive swimming
(both pool and open water), swim training, swim coaching, intergalactic travel
(kidding) and weight training (nothing serious).
Aims: To reach 100 years so I can finally win a gold medal.
To challenge myself each year in some insane swimming exploit - 1500m Butterfly
- no worries!
Background: Retired long distance runner (18 years). Realised I could swim
faster than I could run.
Spent 12 years living abroad (Europe, Middle East, Japan and U.S.) Met my husband
overseas, a R.A.A.F. Officer on exchange in Honolulu so I continued to bounce
around both within Australia and overseas on umpteen postings but now settled
in Canberra and have no desire to leave.
I have 2 children who swam competitively for 12 years to National level so
I have been exposed to swimming for many years.
Joined AUSSI Masters in 2002 and with much trepidation (and yes, I still get
nervous - methinks it's good to get out of your comfort zone) began competing
shortly thereafter. I have since competed at many Masters Games (Adelaide,
Gold Coast etc) and also ventured to the Oceania Games in Fiji.
Reason for Swimming: It's so much fun - I really only compete against myself
but most of all I love the comraderie of AUSSI Masters. I especially have come
to enjoy the National Aerobic Swim Programme, which has improved my distance
swimming to a level I would never have imagined possible.
Qualifications: AUSTSWIM qualification.
