Hi All,
A quick up date on club news.
Upcoming Events
A couple of important events in our swimming calendar are coming up!!
The ACT championships are being held on the weekend of 17/18 September at the Tuggeranong pool and our club is hosting this event.
A copy of the flyer is attached and entries should be with Liz Needham by Sunday 4 September. As the two Canberra clubs are now of approximately equal size the Branch is introducing an inaugural Champion Club Trophy
SO!!
This is our chance to be the inaugural champion club for the ACT, I strongly encourage all members to participate and support the club.
Remember, you don't have to be a good swimmer. This is about setting your own standard and giving yourself a benchmark to assess your progress.
And it is Fun!!
It is also an opportunity get to know fellow club members away from training and see how an AUSSI swim meet works. Copies of the flier and entry cards will be available the pool.

On 5 November the club will be holding the Annual Tuggeranong Challenge. This is the clubs own Carnival and is a fun event with the smartest not necessarily the fastest swimmer being rewarded. It is always followed by spit roast dinner at the Tuggeranong Community Centre so keep the date free. - More details later.

Annual General Meeting
It is that time of the year again and the Annual General Meeting will be held at the Vikings Club Erindale on Wednesday 28 September at 7.00pm followed by Dinner for those who wish to stay. Please consider how you can contribute to the running of the club and perhaps taking on a Committee position. We would like to introduce the position of Thursday morning delegate to the Club Committee next year and so would particularly like to hear from swimmers who only attend the Thursday morning session and who would like to be involved in the management of the Club. A full agenda will be distributed shortly.
Merchandise
Annette Britten, the club merchandise officer has been working hard to put together a merchandise range for club members. We now have a polo shirt to add to the Swimmers, Rugby shirt, Polar Fleece and Parker that were previously available. You can place an order by either taking your order form to training or mailing it to Annette. Minimum numbers are required on some of the Merchandise so get your orders in early so that orders can be submitted.
Volunteers
Ann Reid is the club volunteer coordinator and is keen to hear from people who are willing to undertake jobs at the ACT champs and the Tuggeranong challenge. Please contact her if you are available to help. Jobs range form Technical Officials to people to help with raffles and catering so there is something for everyone. Rumour has it that Ann is also considering taking on this job for the National Swim next year so she would be happy to hear from people that would like to be involved in that event as well.
Every three months we chase people to help out with selling raffle tickets at the Vikings Club. Below is a report form Catherine Alexander who volunteered for our last roster - just to show it is actually fun!!
"Three of us sold meat raffle tickets on Friday 1 July. Jim, the meat eater toted the trays with much aplomb. Catherine, the vegetarian, had the money bag and Ann stepped up as the qualified time keeper and ticket dispenser. What a team! Nine minutes and one tray was gone. Eleven minutes later, tray two had a BBQ date and we had a cool reviver by the bar.
This lot of action was all at the Erindale Vikings, where we chatted and Oneeka joined us for the final couple of trays, providing a lovely addition to our sales team. We had fun, a few good laughs and did our bit for the club. If you're asked to sign up for meat raffle duty, give it a whirl. It's a rare opportunity for a rare night out."
Aerobic Swims
Aerobic swims sessions are up and running every Sunday morning at 10.30am. This Sunday some swimmers will be undertaking the 'Ripples challenge' details are on the board at the pool or available on the NSW website http://www.aussimastswimnsw.org.au/ all members are welcome to participate. Contact Jane Lindsay for details. Thanks to Jane and Steve Walker the results of the aerobic swims are all available on our club website. http://www.aussi-vikings.org/ as they are completed.
Thanks also to Jane in her capacity as Branch recorder the National results and records database is now up do date with ACT data.
Coaches
Unfortunately, Heidi has been transferred by the Swim Centre Management to Civic pool so is no longer available to do the Thursday morning sessions. We thank her for her contribution. Greg is actively trying to find a new coach to replace her and in the meantime has filled in for a couple of weeks himself. Just to show he is a man of many talents.
On the positive side we welcome Yuri to our coaching panel, he has now been with us for a couple of months and those that attend his Tuesday night sessions are definitely benefiting from his wealth of knowledge.
Happy Swimming and get those entries in!
