Newsletter - February 2006
Dear All
Club members continued to be very active during February. On the competition front 5 club members went up to Nth Sydney for the very scenic evening sprint carnival and last weekend 12 members undertook the long trek up to Dubbo.
The Dubbo meet was a very enjoyable weekend away despite the
long car journey. Ann was awarded
swimmer of the meet and was presented with a delightful hand crafted
didgeridoo. The Vikings Charity Relay
teams were easily the best dressed of the meet and Bruce, well he decided the
YHA really wasn’t that comfortable and beds at the Dubbo base hospital were a
far better prospect. Bruce, we hope
you are feeling much better

On the Open Water front a number of club members took part
in lake swims and the annual Greg vs.
On the social front the surf weekend was a great success, the cabins are a great place to stay and congratulations to all those first timers who got to their feet in their first session. Just goes to show it is never too late to learn.
The aerobics program continues in full swing:
AEROBIC SWIM GROUP
The aerobic swim group is flourishing, with 11 regular
aerobic swimmers - Adrian and 10 women!
Come and swim with us in hired lanes, have some fun, improve your aerobic fitness. You just need to be able to swim 400m, and you don’t have to go fast. You can even stop for a break if you wish. One of our group struggles through the 400m individual medley by taking a break after every 25m of the butterfly leg, but there is a great sense of achievement at the end of the swim.
Aerobic swim sessions for the remainder of March will be as follows:
Saturday 11 March,
Tuesday 21 March, 10.30 – 12 noon;
Saturday 25 March,
Swimmers are asked to contribute $1 each to help defray the cost of hiring lanes.
An aerobic swim session can also be arranged at
Merchandise
We go the opportunity to show off our new polo shirts at Dubbo and the fleecy tops are also now available. Annette still needs a few more numbers for the bathers and long parkas so please let her now if you are interested.
National Swim
Entries closed yesterday but we have some influence with the committee so if anyone has a last minute urge to enter please e-mail Jeanette straight away.
For those that haven’t entered please consider coming along to help with timekeeping - and bring any friends or family that have a bit of spare time. Timekeeping is very simple – especially with electronic equipment and it’s a very social way to pass the day. This is a big meet for the ACT and entries have been pouring in from interstate, many of the club committee have been working hard for over a year to ensure the event is a success and the support of every member would be appreciated. Remember the dates are 6-9 April.
The club has been allocated Thursday and Saturday to raise money through raffles, the Thursday morning group has been busy putting together prizes, and donations from other club swimmers are now sought. A basket will be available at training to collect items – gourmet type food and drink as well as personal pampering or swimming specific items make good basket fillers.
In preparation for the National Swim a number of swimmers have asked for the opportunity to have a session in a 50m pool. We thought this would be a
great opportunity to also get together with Canberra North for a training session so are tentatively arranging to move training on Sunday 26 March to Queanbeyan pool were we will join Canberra Nth for their session and stay around for a BBQ afterwards
This arrangement has not yet been confirmed yet but keep that date in mind.
Happy Swimming
